Duties & Responsibilities

Make by-laws
Make by-laws applicable within the division, consistent with national laws and policies.

Work Plans
Approve work plans, budgets, and reports for the division.

Supervise
Oversee the implementation of council decisions and service delivery.

Service Delivery
Monitor service delivery (education, health, sanitation, roads, etc.) at the division level.

Local Councils
Supervise lower local councils like parishes and villages.

Accountability
Ensure transparency, accountability, and proper use of public resources.

Local Development
Participate in the formulation of local development plans.

Resource Allocation
Prioritize and allocate resources based on local needs.

Monitoring
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of programs and projects.

Representation
Represent the views and interests of residents in the division.

Community Development
Mobilize the community for development and public participation.

Civic Education
Promote civic education and public awareness.

Sanitation
Support and implement policies related to sanitation, garbage collection, education, health, and infrastructure within the division.

Civil Society
Coordinate with civil society, NGOs, and development partners operating in the area.

Conflict Resolution
Mediate and resolve local disputes where possible, especially at grassroots levels.

Local Council Courts
Work with local council courts where applicable.

Laws & Regulations
Enforce council by-laws and regulations.

Public & Health Standards
Support law enforcement efforts, especially in maintaining public order and health standards.
